There is one issue the previous posters haven't covered.

Your life would be more simple if you could get a monthly loan statement from the 1st lender. If you are on speaking terms with the previous owner, ask him to notify the lender of a change of address -- to an address of your choice. If it costs you a $100 "tip" to the former owner, its worth it.
