Trustee AND Beneficiary, Ok?

Can one individual be both the Trustee and the Beneficiary (or a partial beneficiary) of a Title-Holding-Trust? Does this vary by State? I seem to remember reading somewhere that such a setup would automatically dissolve the Trust. Thou I understand it may be common practice.
