The point that you did not reveal was whether these loans were purchase money. If so, you are right; anti-deficiemcy statute protects you.

However, if NOT purchase money, lender/creditor has several options. If senior, they could foreclose judicially, but that's unlikely. If junior, they could either abandon the security or let the first foreclose them out, then seek a money judgment (AJ) for the amount of the 2nd.

Other thoughts? Plays? Opportunities? After all, this is an investor forum.
