Abandoned personal property...

I purchased a property at Trustee sale in San Diego. The property looks vacant, but there is some furniture left in there.

Legally to protect myself, do I need to post the property giving them notice to make sure they have abandoned the property for so many days before I can take possession. If I do need to post it, can anyone furnish me with the necessary form

Thanks,
Mike

Mike,

In addition to the action list enumerated by Rick you will need to fill out and nail and mail a form called "Notice of Right to Reclaim Abandoned Personal Property" if the previous occupants left any personal behind [see the requirements of Ca Civil Code ยง1983-1991]. The form should be available from your landlord/tenant attorney or from you local apartment owner's association.
