Priority of HOA liens in CA was changed in 05/00..

Oddly enough, up until eleven years ago, CA did give HOA liens the "super priority" treatment (except for any 1st lien of record). However, a Court of Appeals decision [Thaler vs Household Finance] in May of 2000 (see http://www.findlaw.com/california/CA02_caselaw/5_2000ca.html) changed that situation so that now HOA liens acquire their priority just like all other recorded liens...as of when they were actually recorded.

So, I don't think it's likely in our lifetimes that the HOA's will be favored like they once were in CA.
