Ouch. Did you buy your own insurance? If you didn't - then you basically chose to self insure and I'm not sure what you can do short of pay for the repairs out of your own pocket. If the previous owner had a loan, then the lender may have put forced insurance on the property if they were notified that the previous policy had lapsed.
