As I suspected (until proven wrong) it seems like an individual who may be in well over their head. Sometimes these “investors” literally work all the notes themselves similar to a hard money lender. Essentially they pick the lowest hanging fruit first. Otherwise they may contract with a servicer. Really depends upon the number of notes they purchased and their level of “expertise”. A more professional investor group would already be set up as a going collection company fully staffed and with current professional relationships established for services typically farmed out. The later doesn’t forget about you. If you want to put the matter behind you sooner than later I’d tried contacting the investor again, or you potentially could remain in purgatory for another five years or so.
