Not exactly sure what you mean by sold and a new lien.

In most states a tax lien sale will, if it matures, wipe all other liens from title

However: the IRS has a 120 right of redemption regardless of where it appears n the chain of title.

The lernders Trust Sale Guarantee package should tell them about the tax lien and they should correct it.
