My Experience with Rent-to-Own

Wife and I were sitting here on the coast in the rain and mess yesterday and got the wild idea....let's see what we could do with a rent-ro-own house.

So she looked up a nice home on the Internet, listed with a Rent-to-Own firm...left some info and we waited.

Got a call this morning from the firm and it went something like this.

RTO...I'm xxx from rent to own and I'm calling for Susan is she there

Me..no she isn't at the moment may I help you.

RTO..well, she left this number and I'm trying to give her some info.

Me..Go ahead, I'm her husband and would like to hear what you have.

RTO...well, we try and put owners in need of selling with buyers wanting to buy.

Me. OK, I've been doing real estate since 1970 so let's cut to the issue. We looked at a house here that is nice and you have it available for $629 per month. (Really nice 3Br, 2Ba..house)

RTO..well we do not have that house available, it is on there for cosmetic purposes.

Me...Oh...bait and switch.

RTO...long silence...well I would not call it that...more silence...you probably could.

Me..well why are you calling if you have nothing I can buy.

RTO..Long silence and a click and he was gone.

ME..I called back and got a lady and she took even less time to hang up on me.

Me..I called again and got another man and he said they tried to help people with bad credit get into a house and clean up their credit.

Me..I told him, truthfully, my credit is about 825.

RTO..there is nothing we can do for you and he hung up.

And so ended my sojurn into the rent to own area of real estate.
