: Hello Ward,
: If one buys a judgement, what is the proccess and about how long does it take to get and record an abstract of judgement.

: thanks

Todd,

The process for procuring a non recorded judgment is simple, all you need is for the original creditor or current assignee of record, to execute an “Acknowledgement of Assignment of Judgment” in compliance with CCP§§ 673, and file it with the court.

The process for obtaining an Abstract of Judgment is also a simple task, simply complete the Judicial Council form EJ-001 “Abstract of Judgment” and file it with the court, once approved by the court ( some courts stamp it right there for you, and others mail your abstract back to you) you can take your abstract the county recorders office and record it against the debtor, which will immediately attach by operation of law to all real property in the debtors name.
