Modifications can set up people to remain in their homes for at
least a few years longer (of course the only homeowners that will be
eligible for the mods will be the homeowners who didn't lie about
their income, debts and assets). Also, Treas, the Fed, Congress and
Obama are going to do everything they can to stop the downward slide
of housing. All of this welfare, socialist government interference
may throw off investor prediction and projections in the foreclosure
market. Could you imagine where the prices would wind up if the
government stayed out of this? Can you imagine beautiful homes in
California for $75,000? Who knows where Mr. Market would take us
if he was unhindered... back a few more years? back 20 years to
when the excess began? back to 1971 when Nixon took us off gold?
Interesting to contemplate. I think we have at least an overall
price slide on average across the country for another 15-20%. But
we'll see how Mr. Government messes with this correction.
