I've seen investors and even the auctioneer make comments about properties right before the bidding begins. ("Lotta back taxes on that one..." "Did you get a look at the back?" etc.) In fact, the auctioneers are relatively cooperative about modifying the order of presentation. I've seen a bidder ask "Hey can we do that one first?" -- "Yeah, sure" -- then, a few minutes too late, somebody else shows up. But I guess part of that is b/c the auction is somewhat for show. You have ten more days to file upset bids anyway, if you really want something.
