Re: homesteading propertyIn Reply to: homesteading property posted by Bill H on January 01, 2004 at 2:01 PM Thanks Bill, I thought the Fedearl Homestead law was very Lincoln era. I am surprised that it lasted till 1976, I would have guessed the 1950s. : : I was talking to a person that is in the process of homesteading some property. (not adverse possession)I was told that the property has to be federally owned, ie:BLM or other; have to improve the property, ie; build home (he built a small shack on his; pay the taxes for 10 yrs & live on the property for the same 10 yrs.(he visits the shack on wknds, but receives mail there on a regular basis)You also have to establish your property boundaries, have it surveyed & marked before filing for deed. Is this true? : Lillie: : Good Luck, : Bill H
