: Hello Ward,
: In regards Adverse Possesion when it comes to unimproved land, can someone show possession of the land without building improvements? I am currently paying the taxes for the property which is located in the High Desert of California. What constitutes possession?

Jerry,

The CA Adverse Possession statute was codified in 1872. Back in those days most AP had to do with farmland and pastures.

So what constituted noticeable, hostile, possessory intent was the fencing of property being claimed, farming it and/or constructing some improvement like a dwelling, barn, shed, etc. on it.
