Appraisers are probably even more hog-tied with ethics rules than REALTORs. It's also more time consuming to become a licensed appraiser versus a sales person. Try visiting www.appraisersforum.com for more info.
Appraisers regularly have MLS access. It costs money and comes with a long list of various "do nots". Probably better to take Ward's advice and have a broker friend help with MLS access.
