Re: Give me a little credit here already! In Reply to: Give me a little credit here already! posted by ooman on January 13, 2004 at 9:12 AM : I'm looking at buying a defaulted lien from a lender, I have not, and will not, be speaking with the home owner before I buy the assignment. : The question is this: Is it legal for me to pull a credit report on the borrowers without their express permission? : A credit reporting agency told me that this is a "gray" area and that I should be okay, on the other hand I just read about someone who sued their bank, winning a $1,500 judgement, for pulling a credit report without the customers permission. For some reason I think you know the answer to your question, but decided to ask it anyway. It is ILLEGAL to run someone's credit report without their authorization. How would you feel if 100 people that were considering buying your mortgage on you home ran your credit and your FICO plummets 200 points due to recent inquiries?
