Taking the first steps regarding buying discounted judgments...In Reply to: Judgment Lien question... posted by Pete - WA on January 09, 2004 at 3:17 PM : Ward, : Does your concept of buying judgements work here in Seattle? If so, how can I research the relevant laws and start the process? Thanks. ====================== Pete, Yes, I'm pretty sure buying judgments in WA will work out quite well. Just visit one of your local courts and ask three questions: 1. How long is a judgment good for? 2. Can it be renewed? How often? 3. What's the maximum claim your local Small Claims Court goes to? The best place for you to research WA law is to visit your local Law Library. It's open to the public so don't think it's just for attorneys. Ask the reference librarian to show you where the pertinent statutes covering judgments are in the WA code. Take a pocketful of quarters to use on their copy machine. Hope this helps.
