Postponing the recovery of grief...In Reply to: Renting Back posted by JK on October 29, 2003 at 11:17 PM : Hello : We bought a foreclosure home. : The former owner has kept the place spotless. Her story of why she could not pay due to an injry makes sense. : Is there more danger that the sale might be challenged later if we agreed to rent to her for a few months. In our area sales are very slow over the holidays thus it may be good to keep the place occupied over the winter months. : What are people's thoughts on the matter. : Thank you. =?=?=?=?=?=?=?=?=?=?= Jk, Personally, I think that allowing an ex-owner to hold over more than 10 days is the kiss of death. Every deal brought to me, where the buyer is being sued by an ex-owner, has one common element running through them ...the ex-owner is still in possession of the premises and refuses to budge, regardless of her previous agreement to move out by a certain date. Grief is the normal and natural emotional reaction to loss. I don't think an ex-owner can begin to resolve the loss of her property until she moves out and actually experiences the final wrenching separation from a property she once cared for and enjoyed the unfettered access to and use of, as she saw fit. Instead, by delaying the inevitable, she's subjected to constant daily reminders of the final loss yet to occur. The longer that move-out date is put off the more angrier and determined she becomes to try and stay, no matter what. I'd rather face the possibility of a vacancy than the wrath of evicting a grieving ex-owner. Follow Ups: Post a Followup:
