: Ward,

: I have about $40k income this year that I need to invest to show a deduction on my taxes. If I loan the money in the form of a 2nd mortgage to distressed home owners, can I use it as a tax deduction this year? I am in Arizona.

: Regards,
: Derek

Derek,

I'd talk with a tax specialist like a real estate oriented CPA, or a tax attorney.
