Occupancy is important...

: Most fire insurance companies will only insure homes that are occupied. There are some that will insure vaccant homes, however they will charge quite a bit more than the ones that are occupied, since there is more risk. Do you think it is a good idea to move to the home for a while, to be able to say that you are actually going to leave there, and after a month, or so, move back home, so that that way, you get a better rate?

Why don't you put in a short term tenant? Then show the insurance company your rental contract.
