: why dont you call legal aid for your county and pretend you are a lowlife deadbeat who got locked out by your landlord and ask what you can do - they give free advice to such folks

Call an eviction attorney or service. Changing the locks yourself is also known as "breaking and entering". It would be very difficult to manage your deal from a jail cell.
