: Yes, there is some leeway between auctioneers as to how they conduct their sales, since they work alone. Workers in isolation tend to do things somewhat differently than their cohorts elsewhere, but that’s due to laxity in supervision and oversight, not connivance.

I have gotten the impression that the auctioneer can be a surprisingly "low" position at the trustee's firm. It's easy to assume that it's really important-- from the investor's point of view. But having to go driving around from courthouse to courthouse, and dig for documents may in fact be an entry-level job.

Some auctioneers just go mumble in a corner and make no real effort to attract attention. I guess it can be boring and routine, when few people ever make a purchase.
