Judgments aren't easily extinguished..In Reply to: Redemption & personal judgements posted by Steve on April 24, 2003 at 11:09 PM : If personal judgements exist against someone whom you have gained redemption rights from, do the judgements "expire" when the redemption period expires? If I purchase redemption rights, how long do the personal judgements cloud the title? The original period of redemption, or longer than that? I live in Minnesota. =========== Steve, You don't mention whether or not the judgments have been recorded in the county recorder's office. If not, then they can be ignored. But if they've been recorded they have automatically attached to the judgment debtor's real property by operation of law. A recorded abstract of judgment (AJ) may be wiped off a property via a foreclosure auction, but the AJ continues to exist even if its not attached to any property. And it will continue to dog the judgment debtor until a Satisfaction of Judgment is recorded.
