Agree this is a risk... lender would have a tough time prying that insurance payoff from the hands of an ex-owner, who has a known tendency to be insolvent. Who knows where litigation would lead.

Although, this is exactly what I did with my last car when I bought it. (Out of state tax dodge) Title in name of a parent, loan and insurance in mine. The lender knew I was doing this, but didn't care. They just wanted to know the loan was insured by collision.
