: Hi Ward.I have 18 houses that I want to put into a trust. Is it wise to put them all in one single trust or should I put each property in a seperate trust, and why or why not? They are in all different parts of the country. Thanks Ward.

Joe,

I don't know about other states, but here in CA it doesn't cost you any extra to have each property you own in a separate trust. And by doing so you eliminate the possibility of just one lien against your trust adversely affecting all of your properties.

I can't think of any reason you would not want to put each property into a separate trust. There's no extra ongoing paperwork burden, it doesn't affect your taxes, etc.

Ward
