Hi Carol,

I can't tell you whether or not its "the law." I can tell you
that lenders typically name everyone they can as a co-defendant
in the lawsuit. This is for the lenders protection and to
ensure a smooth sale at auction.

It is quite common to be named as a defendant, even though you
are only renting.

Also, if you have recorded your "contract" or "option" this
would have been picked up by the attorney's title search, and
again, because you have an implied interest in the property,
you'd be named as a co-defendant and notified accordingly.
