: The LA County Recorder is backlogged by 23 days. It has been this way for a while now. A clerk told me that up until a few months ago they were normally only a week behind, and he had no idea why the gap had widened so much. I've been handling my own backlog and moving up through my foreclosure lists looking for JBB prospects and I'm almost up to present time now. (By next week I'll be researching properties off of the current County Records F/C list.)
: The NODs on these recent properties aren't even in the grantee/grantor index yet, let alone any recissions or deeds that could have been recorded in the 23 day lag. I could be wasting my valuable research time and effort on a property that has already been reinstated or sold.
: 1) Do you have any suggestions on this?
: 2) Should I complain to the appropriate supervisor at County Records with the hope that maybe it's unknown to upper management and that if they are alerted they might remedy the situation?

Alfred, now’s the time to take that tour of the Recorder’s Office!! I’m serious. Get yourself, Rick, and about three more people and go take a tour on any Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday at about 10:00 AM. Set it up with a senior clerk and go have a look for yourself what’s causing the holdup.

While you’re doing it find out which clerk (get their name) is the keeper of the monthly printout of the totals of all the main doc’s they’re recording each month (show them the San Diego example you have). Take a dozen SASE’s and leave them with the appropriate clerk to use to mail a copy to you every month.

Good luck my friend.

P.S. Don't be in such a hurry to complain—the delay is hurting your competition severely too. So first, try to find a work-around, like contacting Security Union for a copy of the daily microfilm rolls, or perhaps just previewing Security Union's copy.
