Problem is with my local recorders office.. The city of Santa Maria has a recorders office but our County Recorders office is in Santa Barbara (1 hour south) We have a nice computer system in which they scan documents into so you can see them with a touch of the screen, but they only started scanning them 08/1999 so if you are trying to look at older documents you must look at microfilm..problem is they won't allow public to use the film/machine..At first they try to charge for getting a copy and when I refuse..they recommend I go to Santa Barbara to look at Microfilm there...They have so far givin me copies of documents in which I give them the document codes for and then they go back to the machine and find themselves and give me a copy...I warned today that this is going to be an ongoing thing and they will be spending a lot of time searching all my documents. They said that they ordered a microfilm machine and it is months away.. I am a taxpayer that wants to see public documents in my city where they are recorded..(no hassles) Do you no of any guidelines or directives they must follow? ( Government Code Section-State Law, Revenue & Taxation code) They have no problem charging me tax on my home.. Well I am sure they will fix this in the next months but in the meantime they will be doing a lot of extra work for me...HA HA I just wish there was a something that had a quicker response.. Just thought I would get that off my chest...Thanks KIM They have microfilm there but they tell us we can't use it..
