Re: Foreclosure, leins, abandonment and imprisonment for weeds? In Reply to: Foreclosure, leins, abandonment and imprisonment for weeds? posted by Caroljoyceb on June 04, 2002 at 1:54 PM : The County Tax man found me in another state and notified me of the sheriff sale of my property for taxes and Ward (thank you!) explained how I could still enter the property to reclaim some personal belongings. However, today I received a letter (the cops found me too) from the local police department where my property is, that I am in violation of their local weed ordinance 418 and that if I do not pay all the costs involved, I can go to jail for up to ten days. I have already booked a flight with my frequent free miles and reserved a room at the motel across the street from my property so that I can easily go in and out to take care of my final work there. So, now, must I fear the local police car pulling up and handcuffing me for violation of this ordinance? It reads: PENALTY FOR VIOLATION: Any person who shall violate or fail, neglect or refuse to comply with any provision of this ordinance shall be guilty of a violation, and for each and every such violation, upon conviction thereof, shall be senteneced to pay not more than $25, costs of prosecution, and, in default of payment thereof, TO IMPRISONMENT FOR NOT MORE THAN TEN DAYS. And I thought I was swimming in civil law vs. criminal law matters. Jailed for weeds? =========== Carol, Im sure the notice gives you a time period within which to comply. If you dont, then youd go in front of some magistrate for a hearing and if found guilty incarcerated. So Id go as soon as possible and get your stuff and get back across the border before your time runs out. Follow Ups: Post a Followup:
