: By the way, this is an awesome board. I've learned so much from peoples expertise.
: I'm trying to find out if buying tax certificates over the counter is worth it. I am aware of a few states that has such a sale. Alabama is being one of them. I live in Georgia, so I don't live far. I just want to know is it worth the time to go across the state line.

Bigv,

We don’t have delinquent property tax certificates here in CA. However our neighboring state of AZ does a brisk business in them. What little I do know is that every state that engages in the practice has it own unique set of rules and ways of doing things. Therefore to avoid any nasty surprises I’d counsel you to find and read guides and outlines pertinent to the locale you’re going to be working in.

For example, I’d contact a few county tax collectors in AL and ask if they have any guides to buying tax certificates in their counties. Another source is to look in a large city library in AL for any books on buying Alabama tax certificates.

Hope this helps.
