: Hi, Thanks in advance for any info you could offer. My wife and I have been pre-approved by our credit union, but not for very much and therefore our choices in SD are extrememly limited. It occurred to us that we may be able to do better by buying a foreclosed home. I realize that the options are more limited still in foreclosed homes. Questions: 1- is it worth it for us to buy a foreclosed home, or is it too much risk and hassle? 2- Should we expect our agent/broker to help us, and does he get his cut like normal?
========
Buying a foreclosure from the owner before the sale is possible and safe due to the use of the traditional safeguards when buying real property—use of escrow and the receipt of title insurance.

But such safeguards aren't available at the foreclosure auction so avoid that arena.

Good luck.
