Re: Apartments to condos...In Reply to: Re: Apartments to condos... posted by Ward-CA- on January 22, 2002 at 6:38 PM : : I own outright a fourplex in Oceanside CA and I was wondering if this building/apartments could be converted into condos. If so who do I contact to get this done? The city or county or is it the State that has regulatory powers on this, converting from apartments to condos(renting to owning) I would appreciate help on this delimna. Thank You in advance. : =•=•=•=•=•=•=•=•=•=•= : JB, your best bet for converting apartments to condos is to contact the local attorneys who specialize in processing the paperwork for such conversions. Check for attorney recommendations from local title companies (legal dept.), and perhaps even the San Diego Bar Association. : I expect it would be prohibitively expensive for just 4 units, but I could be wrong. ===================== JB, I actually discussed this very topic with the Oceanside city officials. They have a document which details what you would need to do, the time frame involved etc. It helps if the current tenants are all unanimously behind converting to condos. If not it gets to be a bit of a headache, and one problem which you will probably have is that the city of O'side will more than likely require you to provide one of your units for low income housing. This means you will have to sell it at a fairly large discount to the other three units. There are many more issues and I suggest you go down to the Oceanside Planning Dept, sign in an speak with them. The county has little to do with your conversion in Oceanside.
