Re: Follow your recommendationsIn Reply to: Foreclosure property not mine posted by janet on December 24, 2001 at 9:56 PM : I am from Chicago. My purse was stolen in '97. I filed a police report, received replacement social security card and drivers license. : I had my credit checked a few weeks ago due to denial for a credit card. Discovered that a mortgage was taken out on a property with my identification. : A title searh revealed that the property has an owner who is going into foreclosure and a second mortgage (higher than the owner's purchase amount)was taken out in my name in Oct. '91. My name doesn't appear as a grantee. I have no idea why. I had supposedly purchased the property from an individual who has never owned the property and can't be located. : I contacted the lender and they indicated that the loan is two months behind. I will meet with my attorney this week. : I have no way of getting in touch with the original owner because their information is unavailable and the property is abandoned. : Will a foreclosure appear on my credit? How can I prove to the lenders that I didn't purchase the mortgage nor own the property? I have an excellent credit rating and I do not want it further destroyed. I plan to get a new SSN to protect my credit and write the Credit Bureau a letter of explanation. : I've heard of stealing one's identity with sophisticated computer equipment however, not to this extreme and especially four years later. : Please help!! Any and all advice is welcomed. : Thanks
