Doug

I've been out of California for several years now due to medical problems, but here is a technique I used at the door that worked for me when they said everything was taken care of or it was a mistake.

I would smile and say "I'm sorry if I'm smiling but I can't help it, that's exactly what I used to say many years ago when I was in your position, but I was really hoping for a miracle to happen, and I would like for you to have a chance at one. Here is a lottery ticket, please take it and I'll wish as hard as you do that it is a lucky one, if it is you can buy me a whopper and a coke to celebrate. Good luck!!!"

Attached to it was my business card, I then returned after the drawing and asked how it went. Generally they were more open then. If there was still a big fence in the way, I would say "tell you what let's try it again, you deserve a little good fortune in your life, maybe we can make it happen". Sometimes they would call from the card and ask what I had in mind to solve their problem and the door was open.
