Only experience will teach you what people will take (on the first visit). Wear comfortable clothing, and be patient. Remember that you're probably not the only one who has knocked on their door and offered to "help" them. Almost everyone will say that "they've taken care of it." You need to know how to keep the conversation going when you know that they haven't taken care of it. Also, don't forget what it feels like when a stranger comes onto your property and starts asking YOU questions. Good luck. P.S. - if you don't have much success with this approach, consider training (worth the money; trust me).
