How about letting homeowners who purchased 20-30 years ago pay property taxes based on this century? Forget politics and which side you are on, if you have neighbors who pay property taxes on tax assessments that are 10% of the value of your comparable house, that's not sustainable. We can't wait for people to die in order to properly assess their property.

Oh you just want to squeeze one more drop out of that orange. God bless Howard Jarvis. All the folks who have lived in their houses and treat them as homes, not a short term investment, should all of a sudden encounter higher taxes to equal the house next door that was never a home but an investment vehicle? Income, state, federal and payroll taxes are fast approaching 67% on top, self-employed incomes. We have the highest sales and income tax rates and the largest, state, annual deficit and the worst credit rating in the nation.

Forget raising property taxes. How about raising the Social Security age, freeze and cut spending until we balance the budget within 3-4 years and then with surpluses pay down the deficit in say 6-7 years. Let's build 75-100 new nuclear power plants and open up our country and its shores to gas and oil production. And let's immediately cut back entitlements by a significant amount--20-25%.

Here in California we love to sue, to restrict, to mandate, to obstruct and to lecture and now we're surprised that there's not enough money to continue acting as if we still are the Golden State.
