: The neighbors tree branches are hanging over the fence in the backyard. It looks terrible and prevents me from planting trees in my planter box. When I politely discussed it with him he had no interest in having (paying) them cut back. When asked several times if he minded me cutting them back, he looked at me with a blank stare. Not the nicest fellow.

: Can I cut them back without liability?

I don't have statute. I believe that if you trim one side of a tree resulting in it being
harmed or God forbid fall over from being unbalanced you will be
absolutely liable for harm done to your neighbor.
