Distressed Homeowners = Do I have to pay now? LOLIn Reply to: Giving up a posted by CC in OC on June 05, 2009 at 10:10 AM : Many homeowners who are "giving up" their "homes" fail to acknowledge the circumstances under which they took residence in the property. Often, they purchased a house with 100% financing, which means they moved in for a cost of less than first and last month's rent. Then, when they can no longer make the payment, they're distressed about moving when, in reality, their state of mind should be that they're moving from one rental to another, since they had no stake in the property to begin with. : I think if (some) consumers could think about their situation more rationally, there would be far less angst in the streets today. Also, many consumers so situated have lived in the property for only a couple/few years. It's not like they raised their children in the property, held family reunions there, and so the house is filled with memories. : Finally, a little perspective is helpful. "If the worst thing that ever happens to me is [perceived catastrophe => I lost a house in which I had invested none of my own money], I will have lived a charmed life." :
