That's only an alternative theory. You'll really need to reverse engineer the title to determine the true nature of this lien and the condition of title. Use Accurint or similar for info on Linda. Check to see if she has a Superior Court case (i.e. probate, etc.) and pull that file. I like the anomolous aspect of these types of liens. It may scare away other potential investors who are not diligent as you are. For starters, pull all of the recorded documents, read them (thoroughly, as if I didn't need to tell you that) and assemble them in the correct order. My motto about reverse engineering documents: the bigger the table [that the papers take], the bigger the profit. I just made that up. Catchy, huh!
