As usual Rick makes some good points. From your post I sense that you think a year may be long. In CA it may be a tad long, but it really depends upon the problem and how the title needs to be cleaned up. In a judicial state a year could actually be on the quick side. On any clouded title you want to good title company and RE attorney on it. In judicial states getting people served and noticed is quite often a problem. I've seen cases as long as two years. Attorneys tend to pad the expected time to make themselves look good and justify their expenses, so knowing the attorney is really important.
