I'm in business year 'round, year after year, so I don't sit on the sidelines.

Since I'm the one who writes my business plans and strategies, even down to tactical marketing for sub-sub-niches.

So, we may adjust our plan, sometimes severel times during a given year, our objective is to make money year in and year out.

We do well in all economic climates. I can't truly say that we make more in upmarkets or downmarkets. We make money from different types of transactions given the cycle.

However, I think trying to say that we make more in a seller's market vs. a buyer's market would give you too little information. Also, this question smacks a bit like an armchair quarterback might ask, although that's perfectly alright with me.

To be direct, we don't make massive profits in one kind of cycle and not the other; we just make our money from a different ratio of sources. In times like this, I'm monitoring my various trust deed porfolios and trying to keep them safe and profitable. So far, conservative equity lending has kept us very profitable. I'll bet you won't find many other lenders making that claim!

We don't buy much during down cycles unless they are super-bargains. Come to think of it, we don't buy anything during up markets unless they're super-bargains, either. Of course, I'm primarily a lender and use much of the profits from property deals (probates, etc.) to build my lending capital. We can do this in ANY market.

Lastly, if you're thinking of using this feedback to determine whether you should be "in the market" or not, I wouldn't worry too much about that. If you're a sugar beet farmer, you'll grow beets when the season is right for beets, but you'll try to grow other cash crops when beets don't grow. I was astonished to learn that beet farmers (the real ones, not the music group) in the CA Imperial valley sometimes get five crops a year!

Unfortunately, since I've now mixed metaphors, it won't help you if I suggest that you adjust the sails on your beets, but you get what I meant, I hope.
