Re: Welcome to the real world of foreclosuresIn Reply to: Welcome to the real world of foreclosures posted by Tom on May 07, 2008 at 1:14 PM Tom, I wasn't going to file a police report with an eye towards criminal prosecution or to pressure them. I agree that would be a waste of energy and borderline vindictive, albeit not entirely undeserved. Instead, I viewed it as something advisable or necessary prior to making an insurance claim. I am not thinking of investing time trying to get the items back from them (or recovering damages from them). I think that would be near impossible and a grand waste of time. The last thing I want to do is spend a bunch of time arguing with them or the police. I was just thinking of reporting it to my insurance company and using the loss payment to simply buy replacement items. You think it's doubtful the insurance company will pay on the claim? I'm curious if you have experience on that or vicarious experience through someone else. I'm interested in what you've heard about the outcomes of similar insurance claims. I'm debating it right now and friends/family are split 50/50 on whether to make the claim. Although I got the house at a great price, I am already stuck with over $12,000 of their property taxes (not a surprise at all) and another $10,000 is a wad of cash that I'd rather not have to lose. If I forgot to mention it, the property is in CA. I also have pictures of everything other than the water softener. Thanks for your thoughts and insight.
