According to my local tax assessors office the new sale price serves as a tax basis UNLESS they believe the sale price (or lack of one on new construction) does not reflect fair market value. The law is that they may assess at fair market value, and they will do so. My advice is that you find comps and be prepared to pay that amount.


: Certainly I will, however I would still like to know the answer. the assessors office answer might not be correct, kinda depending on the person who answers the phone.
