Time to get it going...In Reply to: Wow! posted by Tom on April 23, 2008 at 10:01 AM Tom - I started working foreclosures in 1978 at the tender age of 23 after taking a Ken Roberts one-on-one course (He was into real estate in those days if you recognize the name as a commodities investor). I did a number of deals during the 1980's, made some good money, stubbed my toe a few times, evicted some rough tenants, and while I never starved, never really got it going well enough to depend on the income. I had a daytime job, too, and when they mercifully fired me in 1989 I had to tread water...fast. So, I got serious about this stuff, got more training (mostly by purchasing every book on R.E. and foreclosures that I could find, plus a few Bob Bruss seminars and lots and lots of events intended for attorneys (of which I am not). I've never missed a meal after starting this business full time, but I've made plenty of sacrafices, however I don't really see them that way. Much later I learned about Ward and his training and took as many courses as I could fit it. Nowadays, I probably do about 10-12 weekends a year taking serious training from the likes of Miller, Fortunato, Schaub, Tilney, Cantu, etc. I've also met hundred of people who've become great friends of mine along the way. It took about a year to really get cash flow rolling in where I felt that I didn't have to worry about paying the bills, etc. It took about six years to really see serious results. So, 30 years in the business, 11 fiddling around, then 1 year to be able to support myself full time, then another 5 before I saw life-changing business results. I've never, ever claimed to be a quick study about this or any other topic. Like my buddy Cantu says, I may only do C+ work, but lots of it.
