A list is only a list...

I think that they're both decent products. I don't know if you're new to this or not, but if you are new, I'd be more concerned about how to use either of these or other defaults notice lists.

One of the appealing features of Retrans and CRR is that they list voluntary liens and identify the lien position of the defaulted loan in question. The downside is that many novice users are easily lulled into the belief that the info is somewhat accurate, for which none of the service providers can make much of a claim. It's still essential that you know how to chain title and do your research "in-house" as you cannot rely on either of these list nor you title company to give you what you'll ultimately want in the time frame that you'll often need it in. It wouldn't be a problem were it not for the fact that I'll bet the accuracy level is no more that 85%, if that. If I'm wrong, well, it's just an opinion.

My own approach is to use this info merely to begin building my prospect list(s). Lots and lots of names on my list will get purged because they either don't fit the strict criteria that I use to initially cull names or further disqualification due to a plethora of proprietary criteria that must be done manually.

You'll also want to give some serious thought about how you'll manage the information and how you'll use it. Give some thought to purchasing good database management system, or better yet, subscribe to the one that Ward and Eric use, as provided by Bret Lund. It's the best that I've seen in 30 years of this stuff.

Lastly, don't go lavish on the data and cheap on the training. You'll get more bang for your buck by investing in yourself than wasting money on raw data that you aren't able to exploit. Check out the "hand-on training" on the links to the left if you're truly serious about this foreclosure stuff.
