The real issue is whether the recorded lien was a voluntary lien, merely an involuntary lien resulting from a municipal citation concerning abatement, etc., or if this was a superpriority lien.

If the latter, the obligation may well remain an encumbrance on title as it would not be wiped off due to the non-judicial foreclosure of a subordinate lien (i.e., trust deed).

This can be fairly easy to determine if the buyer at the T-sale property chained out the title and reviewed the recorded docs for clues (like if the prior owner signed).

Otherwise, we're all just whistling dixie guessing as to the position. Hopefully, the original poster will clarify.
